I had a call on the 12th March with a Macmillan Nurse, just to see how I was getting on. The Rosco Trial nurse was also on the call. It was just a general catch up, but they did say I had to go to the hospital on the Monday for an ultrasound to see how the lump is responding to the chemo.

So I popped to the hospital on the 15th for a quick ultrasound. I was called into the small slightly darkened room again, where I has my ultrasound and biopsy before. The young Health Care Assistant asked if I wanted her to leave the room so I could get undressed…. “Nah, you’re ok!”

I’ve stripped off so much and they are going to be looking at my boob anyway, so why be shy!

The Nurse who put in the marker in the lump came in and popped some more cold gel on my chest. She had already gone through my previous scans so she knew what she was looking for. I could see the screen, but again, I’ve got no idea what I’m looking at, but I could see the little marker.

She asked me how the lump had felt recently, and I said it wasn’t feeling as pronounced. She took a few measurements and images and let me know her initial thoughts.

“From what I can see it has shrunk slightly, by a few mm and its started breaking up, which is a good thing”

Well that’s good news, so it is responding to the chemo. Although it is good news, I still don’t want to count my chickens just yet, I still have a little way to go.

I got dressed and headed back home. I shared the good news to the family and then later with work and Facebook. Lots of positive comments from everyone!

The following day I was back at St Margaret’s Hospice for my bloods. You know I said my head wasn’t working 100%, well I turned up for my appointment at 9am, and not realising it was actually at 9:30am!! I even went to the desk at 9:20am to check I’d not been forgotten about and the receptionist mentioned my appointment wasn’t until 9:30, doh!

Bloods done and a change of PICC Line dressing and it was off home again.

I has my pre-assessment call then on the Wednesday, all ok there with the blood results. But there was talk of some extra pre-meds before my chemo to try and stop the side effects. The nurse mentioned what they were but didn’t specify when I should take them, either that or I just didn’t understand, which is highly likely! Luckily another nurse rang me late Thursday to check if id taken them that morning, which I hadn’t so she told me to take them now ready for Friday.

And just like that, I’m ready for Chemo number 3!
